BYRON BAY HULA - HALAU HULA MANA ALOHA (POWERFUL LOVE)

MANA ALOHA, Byron Bay’s Hula School and performing troupe, love to share their aloha with hip swinging, feel good dances from the Hawai’ian islands that pay loving tribute to the delights of the natural world, expressing joy and gratitude with smiles, flowers and lovely hula hands.

MISSION:
• To maintain the ongoing presence of Hawaiian Hula in Byron
Bay via weekly classes and the performing troupe Mana Aloha
Hula.
• To support visiting Hawaiian cultural teachers and guest hula
teachers.

Kumu: Lilith Makalapua Rocha

BACKGROUND: Introduced to hula in 1993 on Maui by Kumu Hula Hokulani Holt-Padilla, Lilith studied hula with Maliola Cook from Kauai and completed a course in Polynesian Studies at Windward Community College, Oahu with Rubellite Kawena Johnson, Edith Kawelohea McKinzie, John Keola Lake and Sam Ka’ai.

In response to the Byron Ukulele Collective, Lilith formed Byron’s first hula group The Hulahines who became popular performers at the Byron Vista Social Club, Byron Community Centre, schools, parties, community benefits and aged care homes from 2006-2010.

After further hula studies with Kumu Hula Patty Kealohalani Wright of Na Puakea O Ko’olaupoko, Oahu, Kawika Foster of Mana O Kahiko, Molokai and Kumu Brenda Ignacio of Oahu, Lilith formed Mana Aloha (Powerful Love) Byron’s first hula halau (school) and performing hula troupe in 2013.
